As 2007 tourism kicks offFirst-ever Norwaygian flight arrives

The first-ever direct Norwaygian flight in the history of The Gambia’s tourism on Monday landed at the Banjul International Airport around 3:00pm, after transporting hundreds of tourist to the country.

Mr Charbel Hobeika, Managing Director of the Gambia Tour, explained that in the past tourists from Norway used to share flights with those coming from Germany , but this time around they came to The Gambia with a direct flight.   He said they have received a total of 4 flights within a week in the wake up of this year’s tourism.   “The hotels will all be fill up. We will make sure that the hotels will not be over -booked. About 211 tourists have arrived from Norway ,” he said.

Thomas Dalgaard Nelsen, Services Manager, said that they have a close relation with the hotels.   “We manage to supply good and services to tourists and make sure that they are really comfortable. The most common problem we normally have is that the Norwaygians, who arrieved in The Gambia have never been here before, but they will give them time to learn the culture and attitudes of Gambians,” he narrated.

Mr Lamin Saho, Director of Marketing, GTA, said they are working on the modelaties in ensuring a better season.   He said they visited some Scandanavian countries and other European countries to desseminate the message that The Gambia is the best tourist destination.   In short, he said, they manifest the Gambian culture to the outside world to show them the Gambian culture.

  Mr Ousman Kebbeh, Human Resources Officer   at the GTA, also expressed similar sentiment.
