Five-year Mandatory Jail Term for Car Thief

Monday, October 29, 2007

Magistrate B.Y. Camara of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court was understandably uncompromising yesterday when he imposed a five-year jail term on one Momodou Wury Jallow without any alternative of court fine.

The five-year jail term would be concomitant with hard labour.

Momodou Wury had pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a motor vehicle on 25 September of this year in the city of Banjul as well as dismantling the vehicle.

The prosecution said Momodou Wury had sold some of the vehicle parts such as dynamo, battery and wheels to various people in Latrikunda Sabiji.
