In line with its mandate to collect revenue, The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has in the period from January 2007 to August 2007 collected over 70 million dalasis. This revelation was made by the Public Relations Officer of GID, Superintendent Olimatou Jammeh-Sonko, in an interview with this reporter at her Banjul office yesterday.
According to PRO Jammeh-Sonko, the amount collected consists of proceeds from alien cards payments, passports, residential permits, National Identity cards, visa fees and extensions of stay for foreigners. She expressed the hope that before the end of the year, they would collect more.
Comparing last year’s collection to that of this year the Immigration image maker told The Point that their collection for only the first two quarters have surpassed the D67million for last year, noting that it is a great improvement over last year’s.
