The newly appointed Secretary of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure, Mr. Lamin Bojang, has expressed his readiness to work hand in hand with personnel of his Department of State to take the Works Department to another level.
In his first press interview barely few hours after his appointment, Mr. Bojang said: “I feel happy to be appointed to this post. I have been approached several times to take job in government circle but this time around I consider it a challenge.
“At this time I have a role to play in this Department of State because I feel I am needed now in this department,” Secy Bojang opined.
On the timeliness of his appointment, Secy Bojang said: “I feel it is a responsibility to stand up to do my contribution. I know this place, I know who used to be here and I know its present state. It is a responsibility to step in to push it further.”
Mr. Lamin Bojang, 55, is a trained engineer with diverse work experience. He studied at Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone, where he bagged his first degree and then moved to Starford University for his Master’s degree before returning to The Gambia. He later went to do his industrial training in the UK. Upon his return to the country, Mr. Bojang first started work with a private consulting firm called Texsalt where he served briefly and then joined the mainstream civil service between 1977 to 1990. He rose from the rank of Executive Engineer to Divisional Engineer before becoming Principal Engineer. He worked on several projects including the Soma- Basse and the Denton Bridge. He is credited with the design and supervision of the Denton Bridge project.
Mr. Bojang left government service in 1990 to work as a private consultant until in 1992 when he joined Gamex, a local consulting firm.
In 1993 he switched over to Gamworks as Technical Director for 10 years before taking up appointment with Julakay Construction Company. Of late he worked for Gaye Construction.
In a similar development, Mr. Bakary Malick Houma has been appointed Permanent Secretary at the Works, Construction and Infrastructure department, replacing Lamin Nyabally who was relieved of his post last Wednesday. Mr. Houma was a one-time Managing Director of Gambia Public Transport Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science Business Management and had worked at the Standard Bank Ltd. West Africa from 1971 to 1975 after having worked as a teacher from 1968 to 1971, teaching at Kaur Junior and Bansang Primary Schools.
