The troubles of Mr. Willy Joof, former Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Foreign Affairs who earlier served in The Gambia’s diplomatic mission to the republic of France, hardly seem to be over, he having appeared yesterday, Monday, before Magistrate Kayoidy of the Banjul Magistrates Court to answer to 11 more charges preferred against him by the authorities.
The latest charges against Mr. Joof came in the wake of his recent discharge on two counts of official corruption by the Banjul Magistrates Court.
Details of the current charge against the accused allege his commission/involvement in official corruption contrary to section 86 of the criminal code of the laws of The Gambia 1990 as indicated in counts one through four.
On counts five and six, he was charged with public officer receiving property to show favour contrary to section 88 of the criminal code of the same laws.
The accused is charged with stealing on count 7, contrary to section 252 of the Criminal Code.
On counts 8 to 11, Mr. Joof faces charges of dishonesty contrary to section 115 of the Criminal Code.
The defense counsel, Lawyer Lamin Camara, however objected to all the counts except count 7, on the grounds that they are duplicitous and uncertain. The accused only entered a plea to count 7, which he vehemently denied.
The case was adjourned to 27th December for ruling on the defence’s objection.
