The trial of Momodou Lamin Sonko, the proprietor of Boto Construction Company, which was before Magistrate B.Y. Camara in the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, has been deferred to the 3rd of January.

The State Prosecutors informed the court on Monday that they are applying for an adjournment to enable them put their house in order. The application was not objected to by the defense.

It will be recalled that the accused, Momodou Lamin Sonko, has been charged with two counts of stealing contrary to section 352 of the Criminal Code, cap. 10, volume 3 Laws of The Gambia 1990.
Count one stated that the accused, on diverse dates between 2001 and June 2007 and places in The Gambia including Banjul, stole the sum of D1, 593,307, being proceeds realised from leasing of construction equipment to Kharafi and Sons Ltd., but failed to render same to the owner thereof.

Count two revealed that the accused, on diverse dates between 2001 and June 2007 and places in The Gambia including Banjul, stole the sum of $121,665.35, being proceeds realised from the leasing of construction equipment to Kharafi and Sons Ltd., but failed to render same to the owner thereof.

Mr. Sonko has since denied the charges leveled against him.
