Thursday, December 6, 2007

University of the Gambia Medical Students Association (UniGaMSA), on Monday held its 3rd  annual students scientific meeting at the School of Nursing complex, along Marina Parade, Banjul.

The meeting was organised to promote the culture of paper presentations amongst the students of the school.

In her statement, Dr Maria Theresa, a lecturer in biomedical science, who chaired the meeting, said that their involvement in such programme is meant to evaluate the students’ participation in the third annual students scientific meeting, describing it as unique.

Bully Camara, president of UniGaMSA, said this year’s event is aimed at providing a forum for university students, who are interested in heath issues, to present their research findings and literature reviews in an appropriate environment of information sharing.

Mr Camara said this will not only ensure the dissemination of research findings but help greatly to share knowledge and research experiences amongst students.

More importantly, he said, it will also help to create awareness about health and disease conditions in various disciplines of our country’s health system, especially in areas where no national data exists.

He added that one of the primary roles of any modern university in the world is to constantly look for solutions to unexplained problems in the field of health and other areas.
