The Meschede Foundation in Germany, through Sanyany Community Health Centre on Wednesday donated medical items worth over D1 million to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital, RVTH, in Banjul.
The donation was done, on behalf of the two institutions, by Birgit Lempa and Foday S Darboe, the most senior Health Centre. The donated items included a Scanning machine, an ECG machine, Suction machine, Gynecological & Surgical instruments, Orthopaedic materials, anti-hypertensive drugs, among others.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Foday S Darboe said the donation is the sixth of its kind to the RVTH. “This donation is made possible with the help of Birgit Lempa, her family and friends in Germany. We are in a way doing our quota to boost up health care delivery system in The Gambia. We are proud of the annual donation to the RVTH,” he added.
For her part, Birgit Lempa said the donation was made possible through the help of her family and good friends in Germany. The development of The Gambia’s health care delivery system is high on her priority. “With God’s will, we will continue the annual donation to this major Health Centre. All that I brought to The Gambia is given to people free,” she told the audience.
Babucarr Ngum, Public Relations Officer of RVTH, who received the donation, commended Meschede Foundation in Germany, through Sanyany Community Health Centre for their kind gesture.
According to him, the donation is an annual event, through Sanyany Community Health Centre to the RVTH. “We wish them the best as they are our real partners in complementing government’s efforts in bringing health care system to the doorsteps of every Gambian,” he concluded.
