Ambassador Chang presents cheques to DOSE

Dr Patrick Chang, the Ambassador of Taiwan to The Gambia last Tuesday presented two cheques to the Department of State for Education, through SoS Fatou Lamin Faye, for the construction of Siffoe Senior Secondary School and Mayork Senior Secondary School, in Western Region, at a ceremony held at the Office of the SoS for Education, Banjul.

The cheque for the construction of Siffoe SSS, which amounts to US$ 118, 379.32 was contracted to the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), while the other cheque for Mayork Senior Secondary School amounting to US $173, 833.74, is contracted to the Armed and Securities Engineering company (ASSEC).

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr Patrick Chang, Ambassador of Tawian said this is the fifth payment to be effected.

He revealed that the Taiwanese Embassy has a budget to build two more schools, urging the contractors to be serious to attract more contracts.

For her part, Fatou Lamin Faye, SoS for Education thanked Ambassador Chang and his people, adding that the Republic of Taiwan has since 1994 been very instrumental in assisting The Gambia.

She noted that Taiwan has always been assisting DOSE and further pointed out that The Gambia won the Nelson Mandela’s award for the promotion of girls’ education.

Other speakers included, Chief of Defence Staff Colonel, Lang Tombong Tamba and Mrs. Fatou Mbaye, Director of the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), who promised to do a quality job that would be completed on time.

Present at the ceremony were IGP Musa Mboob, Dr Pap Sey, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Education, and the Department of State for Education, and the deputy Director of GTTI.
