Cadi Appeal Panel chairman, members sworn-in

Alhaji Omar Secka, Chairman of the Cadi Court of Appeal Panel Alhaji Ousman Jah, Alhaji Essa Foday Darboe, Alhaji Masohna Kah and Sering Mohamed Yunus Kha, all members of the office yesterday took an oath of office for the Cadi Court, at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Office of the Chief Justice, Abdoukarim Savage, in Banjul. 

The Chairman and his members were sworn-in by Nguie Mboob-Janneh, Judicial Secretary Service to the Commission affirmed that they will execute the functions of their office without fear, affection, favour or ill will in accordance with the constitution and other laws of The Gambia. 

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Kebba Sanyang, Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice, also responsible for National Assembly Affairs thank the chairman and his members for accepting their appointment. He described the work of Cadi Court as essentially important to the development of The Gambia. “ As a muslim country, the government, in particular the Department of State for Justice is working hard with the Supreme Islamic Council for the Training of more Gambians in Pakistan, geared towards making work conditions in the Cadi Court more flexible with competitive rate compare to other court systems in the country” he said.

The Gambia AG used the occasion to revealed that the position of Chairman of Cadi Appeals Panel has been promoted to positions equal to the High Court Judge, meaning the Chairman will enjoy all the privileges and benefits attached to the post as the High Court Judge.

According to Mr. Kebba Sanyang this promotion is in line with government’s resolved commitment to the improvement of the Cadi Court in The Gambia.

Chief Justice, Abdoukarim Savage also congratulate the chairman and his members for the new appointment and urged the chairman and his members to live up to expectation.

Alhaji AA Faal, Chairman of Banjul Muslim Elders committee and a member of the Judicial Service Commission also emphasised the importance of Cadi Courts in the country.

Alhaji Omar Seckan, Chairman of Cadi Appeal Panel, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of his team and assured the gathering that they will surely live up to expectation.
