Jaliba Kuyateh, The Gambia’s Kora super star, has recently released a single track on the need for road safety in The Gambia and the world at large.
Jaliba Kuyateh made this release, while performing at the July 22 square in Banjul, as part of a series of activities marking the United Nations (UN) Global Road Safety Week, organised by Shell Marketing Gambia Ltd, in collaboration with the Gambia Government (GG), World Health Organisation (WHO), Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure and other stakeholders in the Gambia.
He added that, as the UNICEF good will ambassador, he feels deeply touched and honoured to release the single track song in observance of the UN Global Road Safety Week. The theme of this year’s campaign is road safety and the young road users, drive to live”.
According to the Kora king, he was consulted in the last few days to compose a song on the theme of this year’s campaign as a start to the campaign. He described road safety as a course for concern to all, noting that, every year millions of lives perish in road related accidents and mostly the young people are the victims. “Road accidents have a serious impact on almost all aspects of human life, ranging from human, political and socio-economic development throughout the world.
Jaliba Kuyateh expressed hopes that the single track song will greatly impact on measures to address road safety in the country and the world at large and he stressed his resolve to work tirelessly with the UN and other stakeholders towards making our roads a save place to drive in. He therefore urged people to grasp a copy of the single in the market as it will be soon released he said.
