The High Court of The Gambia yesterday ordered the state to "produce the bodies of Messrs Ousman Jatta and Kanyiba Kanyi" before the court at 9.00am on 7th June 2007.
The order followed an application for a writ of habeas corpus and subjiciendum filed before Justice Monageng of the High Court, seeking the court for the production of applicants by the respondents.
The court issued the writ of Habeas Corpus ordering the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General in the matter of Ousman Rambo Jatta, and the Director-General of NIA and the Attorney-General in the matter of Kanyiba Kanyi, to produce the bodies of the duo to the court on 7th June 2007 at 9.00am.
The two respondents in either case are to provide the court with a good reason by that day for the imprisonment and continued detention of the two men. The respondents should show the court why the two men should not be released from detention on the resumption date.
Rambo Jatta and Kanyiba Kanyi were represented by Lawyer Ousainou Darboe.
