S. Madi Imports 3,500 Tons of Fertilizer

SThe much-anticipated fertilizer Shyben A. Madi and Sons Ltd. were to import reportedly arrived at the Banjul Port on 6th July, a day ahead of the stipulated date.

Hon. Kanja Sanneh, the Secretary of State for Agriculture, praised George Madi Jr. for keeping to their promise to provide fertilizer for farmers before 7th July. “The government would like to thank Shyben A. Madi and Sons Limited,” Mr. Sanneh said, noting that every body trusts the Madis for their patriotism and loyalty to The Gambia in that they have always striven to do their best. The arrival of the S. Madi consignment of fertilizer precedes the earnest onset of the rains, making it timely for the farmers. “We are proud of you George Madi Jr. You are trustworthy,” Secy Sanneh said.

He praised the president of the republic for his hard work and making good his promises. “I am proud of my president. He keeps to his promise. He is a great man for his people,” he added.

The Agriculture Secretary of State reiterated his department’s call on the private sector to come forward and do like Shyben A. Madi so as to demonstrate their goodwill for the country.

He further observed that the arrival of the 3,500 metric tons of fertilizer was the first of its magnitude to arrive at the right time. He concluded by urging all to come on board the Agriculture wagon.

For his part Mr. George Madi Jr. thanked the government of The Gambia for entrusting with the task of importing fertilizer for the farmers and for facilitating its timely arrival. He assured his company’s willingness to accept any such challenge in future.

According to Mam Njie of the Senior Management of Shyben A. Madi, the company was happy to be associated with government’s effort to supply quality fertilizer to the farming community on a timely basis. He said over 60% of the population derive their living from agriculture by way of employment.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion were the Secretary- General Office of the President, Permanent Secretary DoSA and top security personnel.
