Three-member delegations from Oostende City Council in Belgium have last week completed a documentary on life in Banjul.
The documentary takes a fresh look at life in Banjul in the areas of culture, tourism, education, fisheries, health and environment, among others.
The team comprised of Annemie Geogebuer, Ellen Geogebuer and Lisa Van.
Speaking in an interview with this reporter, Annemie Geogebuer explained that the aim of the exercise was to prepare a documentary on life in Banjul and to publish a magazine about the life in the Gambian capital. The documentary, she said, would be shown at a grand exhibition expected to be held in Belgium in 2008.
“The exhibition is aimed at sensitising the people of Oostende about the real life in Africa as many people portray Africa as a dark continent. Most of the stories told about Africa are not factual,” she stated.
She enthused that the city councils of Banjul and Oostende have a lot in common as they were made to discover, stating that the most impressive things about The Gambia are the peace and hospitality of her people.
Ms. Geogebuer disclosed that the documentary would be also distributed to various schools in Belgium.
For his part, Councillor Ousman Jobe also the facilitator of the link between Banjul City Council and Oostende City Council said the documentary was part of efforts in cementing cordial relations between the two cities. He added that the two councils have agreed on a three-year plan of action, focusing on different areas of collaboration.
