Gambian International midfielder based in United Kingdom, Seyfo Soley, on Wednesday donated sporting gears worth D670, 000 to his former club Hawks FC.
The donated items include 30 pairs of running shoes, 30 football booths, 60 bibs, 2 sets of jerseys, 30 jogging, 30 balls and sin guards.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Gambia Senior Secondary School Hall in Banjul, Secretary General of Hawks FC, Burama Dibba commended Seyfo Soley for the timely donation adding that material donated will greatly help the club.
He revealed that the Late Fama Sarge Jobe introduced Seyfo Soley to the club in 1994 and since then he has been committed to the club.
The chief executive officer of the Gambia Chamber of commerce and Industry, Cherno Jallow, said that private sector has been supporting football over the past years and will continue to invest more in sports development.
He commended Seyfo Soley and his wife Fatma Jabbie-Soley for the good gesture.
Deputising for the Secy for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, the permanent Secretary, Ebou Joof, revealed that Football needs lot of investment and the private sector’s role is vital in the development of sports.
“Government is very much committed to sports development,” Mr. Joof pointed out.
He called on other Gambian foreign based players to emulate Seyfo Soley’s gesture.
