Lawsuit against PS Local Govt. and Lands Deferred

Thursday, August 23, 2007

The lawsuit brought by Lamin Jammeh, the former Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council, against the Permanent Secretary of the Department of State for Local government and Lands, Mr Ablie Manneh, challenging what he termed as wrongful termination of his services, has now been deferred to the 23rd October, 2007.

The matter was before the courts since May but could not still proceed. The case has now been adjourned four consecutive times without making a start.

Another aspect of the case is that Mr Lamin Jammeh, for all intents and purposes, desired to unveil that he believes that there was a highly organised scam at the Brikama Area Council which included disparity of accounts in cash books, expenditures and actuals, in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 estimates which according to him consisted of a summary of D25, 685,000 (twenty-five million six hundred and eighty-five thousand dalasis).

Following the filing of the case, the defendant, Permanent Secretary Department of State for Local Government and Lands, has been given 14 days to prepare his defence but that was the end of it.

The matter is before the Master of the High Court, Saffie Njie.
