Members of the State House Mosque Committee, on Friday donated bags of coose to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH), President Jammeh’s Hiv/Aids treatment team and Imams within the Greater Banjul Area, at a ceremony held at the State House Mosque premises in Banjul.
The donated bags of coose were said to be proceeds gained from the committee’s farm last season.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Sergeant Sainey Camara, Amir of the State House Mosque said they ventured into farming to support President Jammeh’s ‘Back to the Land Call.’
According to him, the proceeds from the committee’s farm are usually given to the needy, sick and part of it is also used during their annual Gamo. “Even though some of us need the proceeds, we believe that there are others who need it more than us. Sgt. Camara thanked President Jammeh who is also the chairman of the State House Mosque Committee for giving them courage, and commended Major Sereign Modou Njie, State House commander, and Mustapha Jallow, State House’s RSM for their continuous support.
Speaking on behalf of The Gambian leader, President Dr. Alhaji Yahya Jammeh who also doubles as chairman of State House’s Mosque Committee, Sereign Modou Njie, State House Commander commended the committee for their gesture, describing it as a noble one. Commander Njie assured the committee that the donated items will go a long way in helping the targetted people.
For her part, Sainabou Jallow a representative of the RVTH who also doubles as a member of the Gambian leader’s Hiv/Aids treatment programme thanked the donors for their support, adding that the hospital has received several donations from the committee.
The ceremony was witnessed by members of the State House Mosque Committee, Muslim elders as well as some Senior military personell and Dr. Njogu Bah. Imam Abdoulie Fatty delivered the vote of thanks.
