More charges of criminal offences
continue to be slammed against Mr Christopher Badjie, a man bearing
five different names on different bank accounts with different banks
through out the Gambia.
The latest count prefered against Mr Christopher Badjie Alias the five
other subsequent names is of using a South African international
Passport at the Banjul International Airport contrary to criminal code
laws of the Gambia.
The latest charge made the total charges of criminal offences prefered against the accused to 22 counts.
When the case was mentioned yesterday before the principal magistrate
B.Y Camara at the Banjul magistrates court, Buba Bojang state counsel,
who deputised for the DPP informed the court of the prosecution’s
intention to substituted the charged sheet to add an additional one
count thus made total of 22 counts of criminal offence prefered against
the accused.
Edu Gomez, defence counsel for the accused Christopher Badjie, raised
no objection to the prosecution’s application but was quick to say that
he just learned in court about the prosecution’s intention to
substitute the charges.
The state counsel further informed the court that, the prosecution has
received a letter from the surety of the accused expressing his
intention to withdraw as the surety.
Responding to the submission of the defence counsel, lawyer Edu Gomez,
expressed the need for speedy trial of the case. The state counsel
Buba Bojang applied for a an adjourntment noting that, investigations
are still on going.
Principal magistrate granted applications of the state counsel and in respect to the withdrawal of the accused surity.
Magistrate Camara urged the defence to either provide a new surety and
remanded the accused in mile two until the next adjourned date April
23rd 2008 for continuation.
