D673,436 missing at Bintang School

One Alhagie Lama Jammeh was alleged to have stolen D673,436 from Trust Bank Latrikunda branch property of Bintang Nursery School.

According to the police prosecutor corporal 510 Touray, Alhagie Lama Jammeh on May 12, 2003 to 28 June 2007 at Trust Bank Latrikunda branch in the Kanifing Municipality stole D673,436 which is property of Bintang Nursery School.

Testifying before senior Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara of the Bundng Magistrates Court, Amadou Njie yesterday told the court that he is a police corporal attached to Police Headquarters in Banjul.

He said on 12 of November 2007 while in his office in Banjul , a case file from Tallinding Police Station was referred to their office for further investigation.

According to him, when the case file was brought to their office, they received a tip-off that the accused travelled to Cassamance for medical treatment. According to him, arrangements were made with the Sibanor Police Station to intercept him.

He was arrested and brought to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed on the allegation levied against him, and soon after that a statement was obtained from him.

Corporal Njie added that during the cause of their investigation, one of the complainants Pap brought some receipts that were said to have allegedly been sent to him by the accused showing how the said money was spent.

At this juncture the police prosecutor showed the accused some receipts of which he identified and were tendered in court and marked as exhibits. Lawyer Batchilly represented the accused.The case was then adjourned to April 16 for the prosecution witness to be cross-examined by the defence counsel.
