The case of Christopher Badjie, an alleged escapee from a US prison custody, who is standing 22 counts of criminal offences, resumed yesterday before principal magistrate B.Y. Camara of Banjul magistrates court.

The sitting was characterised by receiving of evidence from PW1 - Abdou Colley, a nurse by profession and resident of Bundung in Serrekunda.

According to the witness, he came to know the accused through his cousin, who he said was now residing in Greece, Europe. He said that his had also instructed him to meet the accused “Christopher Badjie” who had claimed to be a Gambian, tracing his family roots in The Gambia.

Mr Abdou Colley informed the court that the accused was accompanied to his house by one Mr Abdoulie Darboe.  He asked me to assist the accused to trace his family, and that after the introduction, they left, he said.

The prosecution witness noted that the accused and Mr Darboe made several visits to the house, but on one of the visits the accused told him that it would not be easy to trace his family in The Gambia as he (the accused) had been outside The Gambia for years.

The accused further told him about his intention to start a business and asked as to which type of business they could do. He also urged him to work out a business plan.

“I adviced the accused to either engage in selling cements, rice or building materials. And the accused further asked me to assist him in acquiring a Gambian ID Card and a Tin Number Card, which I did,” said the witness.

The case was adjourned to 19th May, 2008, for continuation.
