Assembly begins sitting

The second meeting of the  National Assembly for the 2008 Legislative year begins today, June 18, at 05:00pm, at the National Assembly Chambers, Banjul.

According to a dispatch issued to the Daily Observer, the National Assembly Members will begin the proceedings with a communication from the chair, laying of papers and reports to consider the miniutes of the National Assembly Authority Meeting held on February 14 and May 28. This will be tabled by Hon Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the majority leader and NAM for Serrekunda East. The NAMs will also receive a report by the ECOWAS members and ratification of the State Land Amendment Bill 2008, to be tabled by Ismaila Sambou, the secretary of state for Local Government, Lands and Religious Affairs.

On Thursday, June 19, the NAMs will continue resume sitting with a question-and-answer session, before amending the Motor Traffic (amendment) Bill 2008 and the Arms and Ammunition (amendment) Bill 2008, which are expected to be tabled by Ousman Sonko, the secretary of state for Interior.

On Monday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 24, the NAMs are expected to raise relevant questions for members of the Executive, before the adjournment debate. This will continue on Wednesday, June 25, after which the Assembly will adjourn sine die.
