Saint Augustines Senior Secondary School recently held their annual speech and prize giving ceremony at the school grounds in Banjul.
In his annual school report, Paul Mendy, vice principal on behalf of the principal, described the school as a great and imminent one in the educational map of the Gambia. He highlighted the immense contribution the school has made in shaping the lives of young people since its establishment.
On the academic performance, Vice Principal Mendy revealed that the schools academic strength keeps increasing, although they still hope for better performance from the students. “In 2004, the school entered 233 candidate for the WASSCE examination out of which, 172 passed on at least with four subjects, 32 passed in three subjects, 13 in two subjects and 12 passed in one and four in no subjects” he said.
He then implored on government to look into the conditions of the teachers to enable schools maintain and retain their teachers as well as reduce the degree of movement which he described as a menace to a learning system. He then acknowledged the fruitful links between St. Augustines and Onze Lieve Vrouwe Collage in Belgium which will continue to grow .
On ICT, Mr Mendy stated that the school has a big computer lab with forty computers which are all running and are all connected to the internet with Gamtel as a service provided.
He then advised the graduates to be visionary, focused and hard working, to achieve better in life after school noting that there are lots opportunities for them.
