AMMREN Gambia Chapter Calls on Vice President

Wednesday 25 June 2008 AMMREN Gambia, under the able leadership of its country coordinator, Momodou Faal, paid a courtesy call on the vice president Dr. Isatou Njie Saidy at  State House. The visit was meant to brief the Vice President on the activities of AMMREN Gambia.

Faal told the Vice President and the National Security Council that AMMREN Gambia is all out to supplement the work of the government in the fight against malaria. He acknowledges the achievements of the government of the Gambia in that area. He told them that yes reports have shown that the malaria burden has dropped in the past years but more efforts is needed in the area of combating the disease.

The VP was also informed that since its launching one year ago, AMMREN Gambia did hold a sensitization workshop for journalists and stake holders,on malaria and the fight to combat it, in commemoration of World Malaria Day in May of this year. He gave a short background to the formation of AMMREN , with  its head office in Accra. He told the VP that AMMREN is headed by Mrs. Charity Binka of Ghana and that nine other African are members of thie network.

At the meeting was in attendance, the head of the National Malaria Control Programme Mr. Malang Fofana.He informed the VP that his office is in close collaboration with AMMREN Gambia and that, which is all they needed if they are to make any head way in the fight against this disease. Fofana informed the VP of their aerial spraying which will be in under few days .He thank the government of the Gambia for their support in the fight against malaria.

In her intervention the VP commended AMMREN international for a very good initiative. She said the network should continue with their good job. She also commended the country chapter for their acievemenmts.This is only year ago and is able to register such achievements. Njie Saidy encourages them to continue the good job by collaborating with relevant stake holders like the ministry and other units. She is happy with the collaborations with the Medical research council (MRC) as they have done a lot of research but much of those research works are not published. With this new relationship she hopes that hurdle will be over come. She assures AMMREN Gambia her government support.

The country coordinator was accompanied by members of his executive, Ida Job who is the assistant county coordinator and Madi Ceesay who is an adviser.
