Dear Reader,

Another year has passed and Convocation is here again. As is our tradition at this time, we bring you literary material written by members of the University family. However, this year, it has taken a slightly different form as you may have noticed from the name of this magazine, The New Ndaanan.

This literary magazine is a revival of the Ndaanan of the 1970s. It is an initiative of the Department of Arts and Humanities at the University of The Gambia with a two‑pronged objective of encouraging a reading culture which is lacking in The Gambia, as well as motivating budding Gambian writers to write with a view to developing their talents.

This maiden edition contains poems, short stories and articles written by Gambians and non-Gambian contributors living in The Gambia and in the Diaspora.

Once again, I thank you for patronizing us and wish you pleasant reading.
