18 Men Remanded on Rogue and Vagabond Charges

Sunday, April 22, 2007
The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by Pa Harry Jammeh, yesterday sent 18 men to one month in remand at Mile 2.
The men were arraigned on rogue and vagabond charges contrary to section 167 D of the criminal code.

According to the particulars of offence the accused persons on 7th April 2007, were jointly and unlawfully found around 5 – 6 pm. at the compound Boy Bansang, leading to the suspicion that they were acting illegally. While taking their plea, accused number 11, one Musa Nyang, admitted that they use hard drugs such as heroine and cocaine, adding that their host, Boy Bansang, sells the said hard drugs - hence their temptation to stay in his compound.

In his ruling Magistrate Jammeh remanded the 18 accused persons at the Mile 2 and ordered the police to arrest Boy Bansang and close down his place. He further instructed the Commissioner of Prisons to arrange for medical doctor to conduct a check-up on the suspects before the next sitting.

He acquitted accused number 13, Ousman Conteh, on the grounds of ill health. He however advised him to refrain from what he termed unholy behaviour.
