Another trial within a trial Voir Dire hits up at the Court Martial to determine the voluntary, cautionary and confessional statements of Captain Wassa Camara the 3rd accused person of the alleged March 21st foil coup plot.
This is the second Voir Dire, in the ongoing Court Martial currently taking place at the Yundum Military Barracks.
Lamin Jobarteh, Counsel for Captain Wassa Camara in cross examining the independent witness, Tijan Bojang, asked Mr Bojang if he could recalled the number of times he had served as an independent witness. Mr Bojang said he could not remember all because it has been a long time but he could remember being an independent witness on the 22nd and 24th March 2006.
Counsel Jobarteh put it to him that he was not telling the truth, because, Abdoulie Sowe the police dectective informed the court that he (Tijan Bojang) did not appear before him for any purpose on the 23rd of March and 19th April, 2006. Tijan Bojang in his reply said that he was speaking the truth.
Counsel Jobarteh further put it to Bojang that it was not when he claimed that he (Tijan) was charting with Captain Wassa Camara that he recorded his statements. Tijan Bojang in reply argued that, he indeed had a chat with Wassa Camara regardless of the circumstances. We did not chat or exchange words, he said Wassa had never showed him the alleged injuries he claimed to have sustained, saying “I had no knowledge and I saw no injuries on Wassa Camara”.
However, Tijan Bojang in his evidence in chief told the Court Martial that on 22nd March 2006, while at home, received a call from one Lamin Cham a friend who asked him as if he (Tijan Bojang) could serve as an independent witness.
“I agreed and went to the NIA Headquarters. I was introduced to Abdoulie Sowe by Lamin Cham to serve as an independent witness. Abdoulie Sowe then looked at me and then walked me into an office where I was introduced to Wassa Camara as an independent witness for the recording of his statement after which I and Captain Wassa Camara appended our signatures and I left”.
