Heather Mills broke down in tears on a Los Angeles radio show this morning when a fan called in to apologize for allowing press reports to taint her own view of the celebrity amputee. Mills was talking to DJ Ryan Seacrest about her appearance on last night's Dancing With The Stars TV show when he played her a sound bite from a fan, called Pat, who had called in to state she was embarrassed for thinking ill of the estranged wife of Paul Mccartney. The 42-year-old caller confessed reports Mills was a "gold digger" who was only interested in going after McCartney's money made her think she was a terrible person.
Pat said, "I'm ashamed that I had a judgment against her, based on what I read in the newspapers... She has won me over. I would love to apologize to her and America should apologize to her... She was wrongfully treated." Upon hearing this, Mills sobbed, "That makes me so emotional. That's great," adding, "You've got me going now, sorry." Mills admitted the past few years have been tough on her as she faced criticism for marrying McCartney and then filing for divorce from him. She said, "My girlfriend said to me, 'Monuments are not built for the critics, they're built for the criticized,' and I said, 'Well, that's a bit over the top but thank you very much.'"
Mills admits her three-week stint on Dancing With The Stars has helped her win over the American public: "You clear 21 million square meters of
landmine-filled land, you fit 40,000 people with limbs and then they go on to vilify you. You do two-and-a-half to three dances and suddenly you're amazing. It's crazy really."
