Thursday, December 20, 2007

The Alkalo of Bijilo and 11 others will today appear before the Brikama High Court in Western Region.
Alkalo Yankuba Jatta and co. will state their pleas today over allegation of encroaching on a plot of land.
The suspects were sued by a German, Bernd George Diedrich, for allegedly encroaching on his piece of land in Bijilo village.

Mr Dierich is seeking redress for the plot of land, measuring 69m x 100m x105m x137m x 180m, which Mr Jatta purportedly demarcated into a number of plots and sold them  to 11 individuals. He wants an injunction for the nullification of all the purported transfers, allocations or transactions.

He is also seeking an injunction for the eviction of those 11 individuals from the said plots of land. One Bacamara Sumundu and Andre Sape Van Klaabergen are currently occupying two of the plots.

Mr Diedrich would also want a perpetual injunction, restraining Yankuba Jatta and the eleven individuals, whether by themselves, their agents or servants from entering in or building on, developing or in anyway interfering with the said piece of land.

Besides, he would like to be paid the sum of D1, 000,000.00 for damages.

Meanwhile, Mr Bernd George Diedrich  have claimed to have bought the said piece of land  from one Mr Ebrima Faal and Saihou Faal in 1991 during which the transfer was  approved by Yankuba Jatta in his capacity as the Alkalo of Bijilo. The transfer was also approved by the chief of Kombo North and the Local Government Officer at the Brikama Area Council.
