Mr Foday Bah, a supporter of the UDP/NRP/GPDP opposition alliance during the recent presidential elections, is currently facing trial at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for allegedly making statements that contravene the elections decree.
Decree number 78 prohibits utterances that violate the rule during the campaign period.
According to the particulars of offence read before the presiding magistrate, Edrissa Mbai, the accused on or about the 6th day of September 2006 at the Old Yundum village made statements against the person of the president of the republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, that contravene the Elections Decree. The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Meanwhile Mr Bah was refused bail by the court following an objection by the police prosecutor. He was therefore remanded in custody pending the outcome of the case.
