A total of 20 women from Western Region were Friday presented certificates having successfully completing a two-week training course on traditional birth attendance (TBA), jointly organised by Sheikh Abdullah Jah Charitable Foundation and Western Region Health Team.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Western Region Health Team Office in Brikama, the President of Sheikh Abdullah Charitable Foundation, and Professor Dr Omar Jah underscored the importance of the training, noting that his organization is always supportive of the health sector. He went on to thank the Gambian government, through the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare, for the being so supportive of his organization.
For her part, Aja Abi Khan, a senior health officer representing the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare pointed out that traditional birth attendants are partners in development hence; they need to be armed with the requisite knowledge to ably carry out their functions effectively and efficiently.
Mrs Khan therefore urged participants to utilise the knowledge gained from the training by serving their communities well.
