Ten teams from Western Region will compete in a memorial tournament in the name of veteran Sport Journalist Late Momodou Manneh scheduled to take place on the 1st of December 2007.
In this regard, a presentation of a giant trophy, 36 medals, world clocks, medals and radios was made yesterday at the Brimaka police station by Seedy Ceesay, the organiser of the tournament to the Brikama Sports Committee.
Speaking at the presentation, Mr Seedy Ceesay who was also a co-presenter of the Late Momodou Manneh at Radio One FM, described the deceased as a patriotic Gambian and commended him for his support to the development of sports in The Gambia.
He said he came up with this initiative because late Momodou Manneh also contributed a lot in Gambian sports Journalism.
In his remarks Lamin King Colley, Chairman of Western Division Sports Committee, described Seedy Ceesay as a good son of the land. He said the tournament will kick off next week featuring ten teams. He added that each participating team will receive D5,000 dalasis for preparation.
He explained that during the tournament there will be a raffle draw and the first prize winner will benefit from a one year scholarship adding that other prizes include TV set, DVD, bicycle, and bags of rice.
“The winner of the tournament will go home with a giant trophy, medals and cash prize of D10, 000 while the runners-up will receive D8, 000 with medals,” he highlighted.
