The professionalism of the Cuban Medical Team serving in The Gambia has once again been amply demonstrated in the aftermath of the Sunday evening accident at the village of Serrekunding which claimed the lives of ten people.
Even though Sundays are usually a rest day for the team, their personnel working at the Brikama Health Centre, cognisant of their role wasted no time in getting to the health centre to attend to the victims of the accident.
This heroic move was facilitated by Dr Lazero, the head of the team in The Gambia who was at that time in the provinces wasted no time in contacting his personel to be on the spot at their most needed time.
Lazero told the Daily Observer that his personel at the Brikama Health Centre did all they could to ensure that the remaining lives were saved “but we did this with other medical staff at the Brikama Health Centre”.
Again when some were referred to the RVTH, Lazero went on, specialists in the different medical fields were at hand to receive them and give them the much needed attention.
He then assured The Gambian populace of his team’s readiness to be at hand whenever needed.
Impressed by the performance of the Cubans, Tamsir Mbowe, director of Medical and Health Services, told the Daily Observer that Dr Lazero indeed did a tremendous job by mobilising his personnel minutes after the accident.
“They treated victims with multiple fractures and attended to two of the victims at the theatre. To be honest, the Cubans did a good job and really need commendation. They are ready to be everywhere when needed,” said Dr Mbowe.
