Thieving guards jailed

Senior Magistrate EF M’Bai of the Brikama Magistrate court on Monday convicted and sentenced two Saloum security guards to six months imprisonment each without an option of a fine The duo Bubacarr Saine and Dan M’Bai pleaded guilty for stealing twenty litres of gas oil at their guard post at Bajagar Village valued D560 being the property of Kharafi Company.

According to the police prosecutor Corporal 752 Sarr ,the duo were on April 13th 2008 arrested at their guard post at Bajagar for allegedly stealing the said twenty litres of gas oil.

According to corporal Sarr. The two confessed stealing the gas oil during their interrogation and subsequently they were taken to Sibanorr police station where they were cautioned and charged.

In their plea for mitigation, the two Bubacarr Saine and Dan M’Bai begged the court to exercise mercy on them saying that they will never repeat the act in living memory.

Handing down his verdict, Magistrate M’Bai put it to the two that they are paid on salaries to safe guard the company’s properties and not to steal . He noted that the act was as a result of greed and they lack honour for themselves.

Senior Magistrate M’Bai then convicted and sentenced the two to Six months’ imprisonment each with hard labour. He also ordered that the said gas oil be returned to the Kharafi Company with a signature by the company’s senior member to acknowledge received of it.
