The Babylon arson case continues to crawl at the Brikama Magistrate Court as proceedings could not continue last Monday due to the absence of the prosecution officer.
When the case was called, the defense counsel, Antouman Gaye told the court that he had received information that the prosecutor would not be in court. He thus applied to the court for an adjournment, which was granted.
The defense council also informed the court that he had been informed by his clients that one Lamin Jarju of Babylon, has not been complying with the court order to stop all activities on the land in dispute. He added that Jarju was recently seen in the area clearing land for the purpose of erecting a market.
The magistrate ordered that Jarjue be arrested and brought before the court today to explain the reason for his behaviour and further ordered that a copy of the order be given to the Police at Yundum - who had said they could not do anything about Jarjue unless they received an order from the authority concerned.
The case was adjourned to 6 Febraury 2009.
