Two men, Modou Alieu Jallow and Salieu Jallow, were last Tuesday paraded before Magistrate P Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates Court accused of stealing.
The duo were said to have broken into the house of one Samba Jallow and stolen two DVD players valued at D5,000 on June 9, 2008. However, when the charge sheet was read to them, Modou Alieu Jallow, the first accused person told the court that the complainant is his neighbour and he had not seen him for almost three days but had observed that his (the complainant’s) door was kept open.
“When I came to the house, I found the DVDs and for security purposes took them to my house,” he told the court. Salieu Jallow, the second accused person revealed that it was the first accused, Modou Alieu Jallow, who asked him to accompany him (Salieu) to the mechanics to sell the two DVDs. He claimed not to have known that the items were stolen.
In the meantime, Magistrate Jammeh granted Salieu Jallow (second accused) bail in the sum of D5,000 and ordered Modou Alieu Jallow (the first accused) to be remanded at the State Central Prison and to appear before him on January 28.
