Saturday, October 20, 2007

The waiting is over. The Smiling Coast of The Gambia will tonight host one of the most scintillating, crowd -puller musical nights of the year as the Niamina Dankunku-born internationally-acclaimed king of kora, Jaliba Kuyateh, alongside his full ensemble, are poised to stage stunningly dazzling and pulsating live performances at the Brusubi Hall starting 10pm prompt.

The epoch-making charity gig, spearheaded by the Suso Promotional Foundation under the co-ordination of the affable former Kombo North National Assembly member, Musa B. Suso, will bring under one roof people from all walks of life including government functionaries, business executives, expatriates, tourists as well as big-time society ladies.

In fact the guest list is truly jaw-dropping: From the very debonair millionaire Fatou Jeck Cham, to the calm and urbane Secy Ousman Sonko, to the shy-looking Suku Singhateh and to the larger -than-life business lady Mamie Minteh-Touray, will attend tonight’s musical extravaganza which will be masterly co-MC by US Embassy’s Fatou Camara and GRTS indefatigable Ansumana Drammeh. Also the Gambian oral historian cum entertainer, Efry Mbye will be on hand to add colour to the occasion.

With a coterie of heart-warming new tunes under his belt, Jaliba Kuyateh and his star-studded band are gearing up to transform the Brusubi Hall into a scene of fanfare and razzmatazz with spectacular voice outputs and breathtaking dancing skills.

Speaking to this paper, Musa B. Suso explained that the event is conceived and designed to drum up financial support for the upkeep of the Suso Foundation. He therefore appealed to all and sundry to attend the show as in his words ‘there will be lots of side attractions on the night. He said that the concert is proudly sponsored by Kank’s Classic Fashion in collaboration with the Sukuta Sanchaba United Youths adding that the night would be dedicated to AFRICELL.

According to Mr. Suso there will be free transport for those who want to attend the show at the following locations: Sukuta, Bijilo and Brufut car park to the venue at 9pm.

Meanwhile, the Suso Promotional Foundation is a newly registered charitable organization launched last month through the initiative of some like-minded youths in Sukuta town. It has about 200 members for now with the membership likely to grow by the day. The aims and objectives of the Foundation are to enhance a lasting solidarity and cooperation for the general well-being of the people of Sukuta, and to encourage and support the active participation of the youths of Sukuta in nation building. And finally, to motivate, mobilize and guide the youths towards self-fulfillment and self-actualization.
