Amie Ceesay, a resident of Bundung was on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to a fine of 7,500, after pleading guilty on charges of assault, before Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court.
According to the particulars of offence, on 15 September 2007, at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, Amie Ceesay, did unlawful assaulted one Isatou B Jallow, by pouring hot water on her, thereby causing her actual bodily harm.
Amie Ceesay, who pleaded guilty to the offence in her mitigation, begged the court to have mercy on her, saying it’s a mistake.
Handing his verdict, Magistrate Jawo told Amie Ceesay that her action was deliberate and must not go scot-free. “On your own guilty plea and first time offender, you are convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000, in default to serve one year in Jail” Magistrate Jawo told the accuse.
He further ordered her to compensate the victim with D2,500, in default to serve another six months imprisonment. All the sentences run consecutively.
