Ebrima Ceesay and Karamo Cham, both Assistant Law Court Registrars, were recently sentenced by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards for fraudulent practices.
The accused persons were charged with stealing by servant and clerk between October and November 2005 as Court Registrars at Bundung.
The first accused, Ebrima Ceesay, has since absconded the jurisdiction and his joint collaborator, Karamo Cham, was sentenced to pay D10,000.00 (Ten thousand dalasis) in default to serve one year six months in addition to a fine of D7,000.00 as compensation to one Anna Sankis, in default one year imprisonment.
The convict was found guilty after a probe into a missing D7,000.00 being an installment for a D10, 000 that was supposed to be in installment of D3, 000 and D7, 000, which amount was for Anna Sankis.
The monies were paid by Amadou Manga who was convicted at Bundung Magistrates Court for rash and negligent driving and subsequently fined D10, 000. Official receipts were issued to the payer but the D7, 000 was not recorded in the court records.
Later investigation revealed that during the handing over when Karamo Cham was taking over from predecessor Ebrima Ceesay, rough handing over list was detected, and some alteration on the handing over list while the convict, Karamo Cham, knew fully well that the handing over list involved some fraudulent entries.
