The organisation of Aid for Orphans and Disabled (AFOD), over the weekend held a strategic development meeting at its head office in Bundung Borehole.
Speaking at the ceremony, the organisation’s Executive Director, Lamin Fofana, who gave an overview of AFOD, said since the inception of the organisation three years ago, they have embarked on public awareness campaigns to sensitise youths and women in the areas of health, orphans and disability issues geared towards national development.
This, he said, is carried out through effective partnership with seven grassroot organisations and the Department of Social Welfare and the SOS Children’s Village.
According to him, they had over 800 needy children in their database, of which 14 are students attending senior secondary schools through the help of AFOD, while others have benefited from IT training to enhance their capacity.
Mr Fofanah revealed that their plans include the creation of micro-economic schemes, fun parks, conferences with religious leaders, local authorities and communities, touching on the issues affecting disabled persons and rallies for support to provide them with the necessary skills. He then called on other organisations to support them to achieve their aims and objectives.
For his part, Nigel Gri of the ENFYS Acumen Consultancy in United Kingdom, said he was pleased with the activities of the organisation and thanked the organisation’s Board of Trustees for accepting and endorsing his membership. He assured them of his support. The ceremony was chaired by Ousman Ndow, chairman of Board of Trustees, while Fatou Jammeh, a board member, gave the vote of thanks.
The ceremony was attended by members of the organisation, women groups, amongst others.
