Magistrate’s absence delays Briton’s trial

The ongoing criminal case, involving a British national, Steven Scott, who is accused of having caused the death of Anta Keita and Awa Fatty, on Monday, suffered another setback. The case which was scheduled to resume at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court could not proceed for the second time due to the absence of the Presiding Magistrate, Buba Jawo.

Steven Scott is facing charges of a rash and negligent act causing death, contrary to Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10, Volume III, Laws of The Gambia.

According to the prosecution, on 24th September, 2007, along the Senegambia Coastal Highway, in the Kombo North District, Western Region, Steven Scott drove a vehicle (registration number MGS 1) in a rash and negligent manner, thereby causing the death of Anta Keita and Awa Fatty.
