Man in court for murder

One Kalilu Conteh was on Monday arraigned before Senior Magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court, charged for murder, contrary to Section 187 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.

The particulars of the offence revealed that on 22 April 2007, at Sukuta Village in Kombo North District, Kalilu Conteh, murdered one Fatoumata Camara, after hitting her with a wooden pestle.
At this juncture, Magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay told the court that the charge against the accused is a capital offence, as a result of which the court will proceed on the matter to allow the accused take his plea.

She pointed out that her court will request the Master and Registrar of the High Court to provide Mr. Conteh with a legal representation at the expense of the state. She said the request is provided for in Section 24(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.

Senior Magistrate Saho-Ceesay then adjourned the case to Wednesday, May 23 for mentioning, before the accused got remanded at the State Central Prisons in Mile II.
