Fatoumata Fatty a resident of New Jeshwang on the 12th June 2007 dragged her son to court for allegedly threatening to kill her. The case was presided over by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

In her testimony she told the court that she lives with her son in her own compound. She said when Principal Magistrate Richards was at Bundung he ordered her son to vacate her compound but he came back. She said her son threw and chased her out of the compound.

She said her son once borrowed money from her but she told him that she had no money. She said her son insulted her and threatened to kill her. She said she ran and took refuge in a neighbour’s compound. She revealed that she was scared and urged the court to intervene because she feared the son would kill her.

Principal Magistrate Richards told the court that having heard the old woman under oath, the court was satisfied that the Complainant’s fears were founded and genuine. He accordingly ordered that the son, Lamin Jaiteh, vacate the compound on or before the 15th June 2007 failure of which he would serve six months in prison for contempt.
