The Bundung Association for the Disabled and their Children (BADAC) on Friday adopted Mrs. Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, Secretary of State for Communications and Information Technology as their honourary mother during the launch of the association, at a ceremony held at the car park grounds, opposite Bundung Police Station.
Welcoming members at the ceremony, Abdoulie Trawally, Alkalo of Bundung, said helping the disabled to become productive in life in order to enable them live a decent life should be seen as a duty of every abled person. He called on the people to keep helping disabled persons as it can happen to anyone as long as the person lives in this world.
Demba Darboe, President of the association gave a brief history of the association since its inception in August 2006, describing it as a community-based organisation to assist disabled persons living in our society.
He noted the aims of the organisation, among them, providing a conducive environment for the well-being of disabled persons.
Mr. Darboe lauded SoS Gaye for his support to the association and to President Yahya Jammeh, whose untiring efforts and support has made it possible. He also appealed to the government and stakeholders to support their programmes to help sweep all disabled beggars from the streets by 2010.
For her part, SoS Neneh Macdouall-Gaye thanked the association for the trust bestowed on her in adopting her as their honourary mother.
According to her, the government of The Gambia, under the leadership of President Yahya Jammeh is fully committed to the development of the country and to support the disabled persons in the country.
She then presented D2000 to the association to help them open a saving account.
