KMC Spends D1.3M for Charles Jow Academy Expansion

The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) recently paid an amount of eight hundred thousand Dalasi for the expansion of the frontage wall of Charles Jow Memorial Academy (CJMA) in Bundung, as part of efforts to complement government’s tireless efforts in providing quality and affordable education to the doorstep of all Gambians. 

According to a press release signed by KMC’s Press Officer, Saffiatou Bah, the intervention of Council came as a result of the school administration’s request and need to expand its frontage wall to cover the four corners of the school. 

“The amount paid now serves as a monetary compensation to acquire the area for inclusion into the already existing premises of the school,” says the release.

In a similar development, the Council also spent almost half a million dalasis to complete the technical block of the school, so as to enable students do most of their practical and technical subjects in well - equipped and conducive classroom conditions.

The completed technical block, which comprises specialized classroom facilities, and a well- equipped, spacious home economics block, was among the urgent administration needs to facilitate the future development of the school.

Commenting on the development the principal of the school, Mr. Alpha Khan, lauded KMC for taking up the challenges of contributing immensely to the educational sector in the country. He said that if everything works as planned, a school library would be built on the newly added land. He added that some of their immediate plans include the establishment of a science laboratory and a computer laboratory, among other instructional facilities.

Charles Jow Memorial Academy was established in 1997 by KMC to fulfill the need for an Upper Basic School within Bundung and its surroundings. The School aims to provide accessible and affordable education to its students. The school has an estimated student population of 1,300.
