Sierra Leonean charged with murder

A Sierra Leonean national was Monday arraigned at the Bundung Magistrates Court charged with murder, contrary to Section 187, Laws of The Gambia.

Abdou Karim Conteh is alleged to have murdered one Itanwa Unemonkwa a Nigerian national. According to the prosecution, the incident occured on or about 19th December, 2007, at Bakoteh, Kanifing Municipality.

However, the case could not proceed in court as the accused disclosed that he cannot afford the services of a counsel.

In her ruling, the presiding magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara said the court will order the assistant registrar to write to the master of the High Court for the accused to be provided with legal representation before he takes his plea.

The case was then adjourned to April 25 and remanded the accused at the State Central Prison at Mile II. Police prosecutor Corporal 510 Touray represented the IGP.
