Spanish gays charged Appear in court today

The two Spaniards arrested last Friday at rendez -vous in manjaikunda and subsequently detained at kotu police Station on suspicion of homosexuality, have been charged with an attempt to commit “unnatural offence”.

Pere Joan, 56, and Juan Monpserratrusau, 54, will appear in court today at the Bundung magistrates Court to answer to the charge levelled against them.

ASP Sulayman Secka, the public relations officer of the Gambia Police Force, said the alleged offence was contrary to Section 124 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.

It could be recalled that on 15th May, 2008, during the course of the ‘Dialogue With the People Tour meeting at the Buffer Zone in Tallinding, President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh gave an ultimatum for all gays to leave the country within 24 hours, warning hotels, motels and lodges of possible closure if found to be hosting such people.
