As communities are gingering up for the summer football tournament locally dubbed Nawettan, the community of Bwiam in Foni Kansala, birth place of wonder twin kids Sainey and Sanna Nyassi kicked-off their own over the weekend. The eight team vying for supremacy are Sonkos, Young Stars, Lion of Juda and Bruck in Group A while Bwiam Central United, Kankuntu, Mission Brothers and Young Scorpions are billed in Group B.
Sonko's and Young Stars locked horns in the opener on Friday, with both teams settling for a one all draw in a keenly contested game. BC United were given a shocker when Young Scorpions’ single stung of the day stole the three points from them on Saturday. The Bwiam Ethiopians of Lion of Juda could not inflict more pain on the traveling fans and team of Bruck from the Kanalai vicinity as they drew goalless on Sunday.
On Monday, the derby match between Kankuntu and Mission Brothers ended in a one all draw. Matches continue during the week but the much anticipated game is the international friendly between Roots United Football Academy (RUFA) and their counterparts from the sister Republic of Senegal, Bindiona, in the Cassamance Region organised by the St Joseph's Family Farm. The match is geared towards awareness creation on Peace Building and unity through sports. The guests are expected over the weekend and would be around for three days.
