Essau Health Centre in Lower Niumi, North Bank Region (NBR) recently received medical items worth over D300,000.
The donated items include medical equipment such as electric beds, uniforms for nurses and doctors, mattresses, scissors, walking chairs, stools, and basins amongst other items.
The items which were donated by the Sajuka Community Development Group, a community based development association operating in the North Bank Region (NBR) was made possible through the Danish Community based in Denmark. The items were handed over to Sulayman Jammeh, Health Officer in Charge of Essau Health Centre on behalf of the Sajuka Community Development Group by Ms Rohey Kinteh, Manager for child and youth education of the group. She expressed delight for donating the items to the health centre.
Sulayman Jammeh, Health Officer in charge of the Essau Health Centre, described the gesture as a very good and timely intervention by the donors. He noted that the donated items will greatly help the health centre to achieve their aims of delivering affordable and quality services.
Mr. Jammeh also spoke on the working condition at the health centre and said his team is resolved to doing their best in serving the entire Gambian community. He hailed the efforts of the donors as wonderful, especially their sponsorship of a ward in the health centre which according to him will greatly smoothen their work.
Kebba Faye, Manager of Sajuka Community Development Group, elaborated on the roles of the community development group. He noted that they have different development projects such as nursery and lower basic school, skills centre, association for children and youths, programmes for women development among others. According to the community development manager, his association offered sponsorships for every child born on 16th June, the Day of the African child and 24th April, birthday of the association. The sponsorship package includes education from nursery to grade 9 and 12 respectively.
