The Gambia Golf Association as part of putting order into the game of golf in the country will stage its annual general meeting mid November.
Alhagie Drammeh an Executive member currently overseeing the activities of golf in the country, speaking to Pointsport said the aim of the AGM is to bring together their members and map out possible ways of raising the status of golf in the country with increased membership.
He said part of his association’s plan for the AGM is to draw an action plan, which will capture the need to organise training programmes for young people on the basis of the game.
“Young people need to be encouraged to play the game because currently we have few youths engaged in the game,” he pointed.
Alhagie was quick to add that although the Gambia Golf Association organises competitions during weekends, they however lack competition.
“With invitations from the Senegalese Golf Federation every year, we travel to Senegal to take part in their competitions,” he said.
He further said, “Competition is what is lacking in The Gambia and I believe sponsors should intervene together with the National Sports Council in addressing the problems faced by National Associations.”
