Awa Tall, a woman believed to be in her late 20s, on Wednesday committed suicide after she reportedly stabbed herself with a piece of broken mirror at Farafenni Wharf Town, North Bank Region.

Confirming the incident in an interview with the Daily Observer, Fallou Galass, who identified himself as the deceased’s brother, said his sister disappeared from public view several hours before she was eventually found bleeding in her house. “She locked herself inside the house. None of us was aware of what was going on until around lunch time, following a search,” he added.

Mr. Galass said the incident was then reported to the Farafenni Police Station who came and rushed her to the AFPRC General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Pressed on whether the deceased had a problem with anyone before allegedly claiming her own life, Galass replied in the negative, adding that he last set eyes on her in the morning. He said he later found that the deceased had told her sister, Marie Toubab, to accompany her young daughter to Dakar, Senegal to live with her grandmother.

Awa, whose body was interred the same day, was said to have once been married to Lamin Nyassi, a police officer, but they had divorced.
